FERREL, Nancy Sinclair - Putnam

Greencastle Ind. Mrs. Nancy Sinclair Ferrel, 97, the oldest native born citizen of Putnam County, is dead at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.F. Guinn, this city, as a result of a week's illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Ferrel was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Sinclair. Her father a Methodist preacher, came to Putnam County from Kentucky in 1824 and settled on a farm in Deer Creek. In the log cabin built there Mrs. Ferrel was born Feb 4 1824. When 16 she married James Ferrel. Three children survive. Mrs. W.F. Guinn, Mrs. T.W. Dickerson and Mrs. J.D. Hunt, Terre Haute. Mr. Ferrel died in 1897. Eight grandchildren survive, including Judge James W. Hughes, Curtis K. Hughes and Mrs. E.B.F. Hurt of this city, eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Mrs. Ferrel was a member of the Methodist church. Her life was spent practically in the bounds of Putnam County.
